Everything you need to know to prepare for, compete in, and succeed at your next BJJ competition.
Competition Rules
- Understand the point system and legal techniques for your division
- Know the weight classes and weigh-in procedures
- Familiarize yourself with match duration, overtime, and tie-breaker rules
- Review uniform (gi/no-gi) and hygiene requirements
- Ask your coach or event staff if you have any rule questions
How to Prepare
- Train with competition intensity and simulate match scenarios
- Drill your best takedowns, guard passes, and submissions
- Work on your cardio and recovery routines
- Plan your nutrition and hydration for the days leading up to the event
- Pack your gear (gi, belt, mouthguard, ID, snacks, water, etc.) the night before
What to Expect
- Arrive early to check in and warm up
- Expect some waiting between matches—stay loose and focused
- Listen for your name and mat assignment announcements
- Respect referees, opponents, and event staff at all times
- Win or lose, use the experience to learn and grow as a competitor
